floorplan
How does my studio "work"?

I drafted this floorplan to help me visualize my upcoming studio space. Where would everything go? How would the crafting of the pottery move through the space? How large could I make my tables, racks and workbenches? Would I have room for an office? How large could I make the showroom? What about venting for the kiln and glaze mixing? All these questions and many others would have to be answered with the help of this floorplan (done on Adobe Illustrator 10).
One of the smallest things that had the biggest consequences was the length of my wareboards. I decided 40" was as short as I wanted to go and as long as the studio space would alllow. This set the width of the main work table as well as the throwing bench, wareracks and the dampbox. With these roughly placed in the studio I could then designate work areas for each step and design the space to suit the needs.
Each small square on the plan equals 1 foot, each large square equals 5 feet.
As I build this page I will add an updated floorplan and studio photos showing each area of the studio in use.
