Clay Extruder Plans
Homemade Clay Extruder. I've
been using this one for the last 10 years for all my extrusions. It
cost me under $100.00. At todays prices it is still inexpensive. All of
the materials are available through places like Home Depot, Menards, or
even Ace Hardware. The Extruder holds about 10# of clay and it's easy
to clean. I use 1/2" Baltic birch plywood for my extrusion dies. (I had
a cabinatemaker cut 3" discs from scap.) The Baltic birch has more
laminations and no voids so its easier to cut out the extrusion shape
and the dies last longer. Masonite also works, however, depending in how
hard the clay is, the dies soon crack. Both materials absorb water so
they provide a smooth extrusion.
