Handcrafted Porcelain Pottery, Elegantly Designed, Exquisitely Crafted, Artfully Displayed

Artist's Statement

As an artist, my decorating is inspired by the woods, fields and waters of Minnesota. The watercolor-like landscape sketches are painted with high fire glazes. Fired to cone 10 / reduction in a gas kiln, an element of chance is added to the process. The blowing maple leaf pattern and the naturalistic stamps denoting the season and the year made, are all motifs that expand on this inspiration.

As a potter, I enjoy crafting functional pottery with all the limitations and demands that are part of the process. Porcelain offers me a medium that encourages detail and provides a white background for glazes, allowing for intense and transparent colors. Integrating non-clay elements into the work provides yet another source of inspiration and expression.

As a designer, my challenge is to blend the three dimensional design elements and the two dimensional design elements into one pot and the pottery into a cohesive body of work. My goal is to create well crafted, understated and enduring pottery that speaks of Minnesota's wilderness.
