I have decided I need some uninterrupted time to focus on new work. I enjoy visits by truly interested individuals,  other artists and of course buyers but find that being cheap entertainment for bored tourists a stressful distraction. Call me if you want to make a special trip to the showroom & studio. Please call first, I may be traveling to an art fair, running errands or on on my bike.

A typical cycle of potting starts by throwing simple forms and lots of mugs. More complex forms like teapots and ginger jars, as well as assembled forms, follow. Large platters and tall cylindrical vases and pitchers are created at the end of my throwing cycle. I also enjoy working on pieces in a series. This allows me to continually refine my forms. It also helps the work to continually evolve. New items are added to each kiln load of pots.

Time to Glaze

Kiln Loading
The Kiln is located five miles from the studio. Glazed pots are carefully crated, loaded into the pick-up and delivered. Loading the kiln takes about four hours. Once the kiln door is bricked up the burners are started. Ten hours and forty gallons of propane later, the kiln will reach cone 10 or 2345 degrees. Halfway through the firing, the damper is partialy closed and air to the burners is restricted. This burns off all the oxygen (creating a reduction atmosphere) resulting in a wonderful range of glaze colors. At cone 10 the kiln is closed up and left to cool for 48 hours before unloading. The kiln holds approximately 250 pots.
